Another winner. Each book in this series is better than the last. I thought having Nick caught in a burning building (a heart-stopping scene if ever there was one) was possibly the penultimate but this book is just as good with several twists to the plot and it's own last minute save to relish along with the last minute twist that I've come to expect from Nick. No one else sees what Nick sees and he always solves the case and it's always a surprise. It's very satisfying. I do admit to guessing the identity of that last "bad guy" but that was a passing thought about half way through the book, more I wonder if that person is involved and a lot less I think that person is the criminal and I didn't think of it again until the last chapter. Proof that, even with several clues dropped along the way, Damien Boyd and Nick Dixon keeps your interest up and your mind guessing to the very end. I look forward every year to the new installment. I just wish it could be more than me a year and, if not, Damien Boyd keeps writing for many, many years to come.Tags : Dead Lock (DI Nick Dixon Crime Book 8) - Kindle edition by Damien Boyd. Dead Lock DI Nick Dixon Crime Book 8 edition by Damien Boyd Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I've listened to all the books in this series. I like the stories and the narrator. I also like that the story is largely about the mystery, and although elements of Nick's personal life necessarily get into the story, it's never soap-opera detailed. So many mysteries try to be a cross between mystery and soft-porn, which I find off-putting in both books and TV.
This is the 8th book and I do hope not the last, as I have grown very fond of the good Detective. If you have not read the previous books, no worry you can start here, but let me warn you, you will have wished that you started with Book one.
I'm loving this series as it goes on and would recommend starting from the first book so you can get to know the characters.
This one was just great, well written story that kept me guessing until the end and good character development. Will find it hard to wait for the next one!
Finished reading this book just minutes ago. The plot was intricate, and Dixon proved his skill once again. The long detailed information about the legalities and finance of the corporation around which the plot revolved could have been shortened. Very dry reading. But the way everything came together was thrilling. Plus, I enjoy reading about Monty and about the progress in Nick and Jane's relationship. I hope the sister will become a continuing character.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series.
The books are all well written, well thought out with good plots.
If I were to offer any criticism it would be that Dixon is sometimes too unbelievably clever.
A short dictionary of English expressions would not go a miss. Many of the words or phrases are unknown to the barbarians of North America. I do like and am starting to use "wind your neck in " and " taking the piss."

I preordered this book and re-read book 7 to refresh my memory. These stories can stand alone, but there is so much back story with each of the characters I really recommend reading them in order.
I guessed the reason for the second abduction fairly early on and also that one of the characters jarred and wasn't who they seemed, but not the full part they played in the process.
I enjoy the realistic dialogue between the characters, especially Nick and Jane. A main detective in a normal, functional relationship is a joy.
Will certainly look forward to the next installment. Especially Jane's growing relationship with her sister Lucy.
I have read all of the DI Nick Dixon books in this series, and I am always waiting anxiously for the next one to get published. The main characters are very interesting, and very believable – especially his long-time love, DS Jane Winter, who works side-by-side with Nick in his investigations. This particular mystery is even more compelling because one of the two missing 10-year-old girls is the granddaughter of Nick’s friend and colleague, Dr. Roger Poland, a pathologist. There were plenty of possible suspects, but the reason for the abductions was very clever. Read this story. You’ll thoroughly enjoy it!
