This is the first book that I have been unable to finish. I put it down at almost 50%. Perhaps its my age, but I rolled my eyes a lot at the conversations and actions between the 2 main characters. Their ages were so young and they acted so immature, yet he was a hitman? She magically turned into a badass? I know it's fiction, but it was too unbelievable to me. I had high hopes, but it just fell flat.Tags : Marked. Part I: The missing Link - Kindle edition by J.M. Sevilla. Romance Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.,ebook,J.M. Sevilla,Marked. Marked Part I The missing Link edition by JM Sevilla Romance eBooks Reviews
Honestly, I was tempted to DNF at 50% because first half was all about Lily's budding relationship with her elusive scarred face neighbor, Jay. I mean I read this book because I was looking for some bada$$ action, but all I got in the first half is how Lily tried to know more about Jay after he saved her from an attack and he obviously wanted to hide everything about himself. Meanwhile, Jay tried to keep this temptress away from him because he is leaving town soon. What exactly he does I had no idea.
There isn't much meat to the story beside of a lot of smutty scene between these two when they fire up between the sheets.
Just when I wanted to raise the white flag and move on, Jay finally did left town and the heartbroken Lily was abducted by someone from Jay's world. I thought the second half was pretty good. It filled with suspense, action and humor from Lily's part. I mean the girl thought running for her life with Jay is like a road trip. I like her as a heroine who can take things in stride and doesn't freak out on learning Jay's true identity. Many complaint Lily was too immature and her love was simply too cheesy (she love Jay too much despite him being who he is), but honestly she had me cracking up throughout the book. At least, she isn't TSTL and she doesn't did anything stupid to jeopardize their safety. So I tried not to be too hard on her character.
"Where are we headed?"
"San Francisco."
"Really? I've never been there!"
"This isn't a vacation, Lily."
We are introduced to more players in the story. I thought Vault was pretty interesting, as well as Arianna. Then we have the bad guys who wanted to use Jay for his expertise and someone who had been hunting for Jay. Lily was caught up in all these drama and wow, they just can't catch a break.
I expected Jay to be some kind of gamma hero, with being all emotionless and stoic most of the time. But he did show his caring and tender side of him that is adorable at times. He even blushed when Lily call him 'baby'. Aww...
The part when Jay finally opened up and told his life story to Lily, oh god, I think I cried all over my pillow. There is simply too much emotion in there and he is such a great story teller. I felt like I finally got his POV from the beginning of the book.
"I'm going to remember you forever Lily, and how life seemed to stand still whenever you smiled at me."
I'm heading over to Part II to see how Jay gonna solved the mess that he's in and reunited back with Lily.
Mild Spoiler Warning*******************************
3.5 stars
So I started out really loving this book, but a few things happened that seemed out of character and had me pulling back the stars.
First, our hero is really Alpha. He's all grunt-y and angry and for some reason only our heroine is able to break through to him. I love that kind of thing. It makes the relationship extra special. The sex was also hot and pretty frequent.
The things that had me changing from loving to just liking (and feeling irritated at parts) are just on my own opinions.
1 - The heroine is in two situations in that she's been abused/beaten up. However, when she's mad at the hero she's always hitting him or hurting him out of anger. Though it's not a big deal, I didn't like it.
2 - when they go to meet an old friend of the heros, who's a hot sexy woman, the hero is all over the ow (she keeps trying to get him to leave to go have sex). He does everything but kiss her during this scene, as well as tell the ow the heroine means nothing to him (in front of heroine). They then proceed to sexy hump/dance with each other while the heroine watches and even the heroine keeps talking about how the hero is looking at the ow like he usually looks at her. With heat and sex in his eyes. That you can feel the sexual tension between the two of them. And then she's just okay with it. She doesn't even care that the hero is looking at her expressionless and humping all over his old girlfriend. This one scene pretty much ruined the whole relationship between these two for me. I don't understand how we are supposed to believe the hero's strong feelings for the heroine when he can look at an old flame like that and hump all over her on the dance floor. To me he wasn't the Alpha I thought he was.
Also, obviously it ends on a cliff, as this is part one and it's a major cliff.
This book had first attraction, development of their relationship, sex(a lot), adventures and mystery but still felt boring. I couldn’t care less about any of them! I don’t really know what’s wrong but they weren’t likable or unpleasant. They were... nothing, no occurrence of feelings for me. Ok, she was like “I didn’t know what I’m doing or where I wanna go in life “, but many are like that. Jobless but who cares? He was “I’m bad for you, you deserve better”. And many characters I’ve seen like this one, but still I loved the H maybe. Anyway, I don’t know what’s the reason but I couldn’t finish the book and was because I was bored to death.
This is the first book that I have been unable to finish. I put it down at almost 50%. Perhaps its my age, but I rolled my eyes a lot at the conversations and actions between the 2 main characters.
